Margerine Melodie is a song by Stereolab released on their Margerine Eclipse album in 2004. The song explores an interdisciplinary area between music, philosophy, psychology and even architecture. This fusion is manifest in the arrangements of Tim Gaine and the lyrics by Laetitia Sadier. At the time of writing the lyrics for Margerine Eclipse Sadier was reading The Imaginary Origin of the Institutions of Society by Cornelius Castoriadis, a Greek born Philosopher associated with the publication Socialisme ou Barbarie in Paris of the 1960's, a source which is directly referenced in the song. Stereolab is testament of what art can accomplish if not constrained by the disciplinary perspective of a single medium or the obsession over a single approach or insight.
